Fall on the Farm
Hello Flatwater Farms CSA members,
First, a heartfelt thank you for participating in Flatwater's inaugural CSA season! We truly enjoy providing fresh organic produce to our members and have met some wonderful people along the way. We learned quite a bit during our initial season and will strive to make the 2022 Season even better.
In the meantime, communicating more frequently with our members will be high on our list of goals. That said, there are a few items that we would like to share with you. Some members have asked for a reminder on how long the CSA will continue and our hours. It runs until November 23rd.
The pick up schedule is:Tuesday, 4-6 pmThursday, 2-4 pm Saturday, 2-4 pm
The Fall Harvest is well under way and quite plentiful. This week we harvested mixed greens including arugula and Tokyo Bekana, along with kale and swiss chard. Two varieties of radishes were introduced to the mix this week, "Cherry Belles" and "French Breakfast". French Breakfast got its name because the French eat radishes with salt and butter for breakfast! Also harvested was Dragon Tongue Beans (pictured above), so named because of their speckled purple appearance! Dragon Tongues can be utilized similarly to green beans, but we also enjoy eating them raw because they are a touch sweeter than green beans. We also like the crunch.
Sweet peppers, hot peppers, summer squash, winter squash, eggplant, kohlrabi and tomatoes, fennel, celery and green onions are also plentiful.
In the near future, we will be harvesting more of the above items listed along with lettuce and sweet potatoes, and more variety as the fall progresses.
We recently planted 2000 strawberry plants. Barring any natural disasters (deer entry, flooding, etc), we should be able to harvest them in Spring 2022!
We welcome any questions or comments from you and look forward seeing you on the Farm!
Frequently Asked QuestionsCan I add to my card? Definitely! Please let us know what amount you would like to add. We are set up to add in $100 increments. If that is more than you will use by the end of the season, feel free to just shop with us using cash or card.
Are there other hours we can pickup produce? If you see us selling in the beer garden, feel free to use your CSA credits then. Otherwise, we are not guaranteeing any hours beyond the ones advertised this spring. Can I get a tour of the farm?
We are planning a tour and hopefully a meal for this fall, stay tuned.
